Much, many or a lot of?


Much, Many, and A Lot of Rules

Is the noun countable or uncountable?

If countable, use "many" in negative sentences and questions.

If uncountable, use "much" in negative sentences and questions.

For both countable and uncountable nouns, we NORMALLY use "a lot of" in positive sentences and questions. But the same rule applies: "much" for uncountable, "many" for countable.
1. Do you have work today?

2. No, I don't have work today.

3. How projects does he have right now?

4. He is working on projects.

5. How grammar questions do you have?

6. We have grammar questions.

7. Does Australia have golf courses?

8. Yes, Australia has golf courses.

9. Does it cost money to travel by train in Australia?

10. Yes, it costs money to travel by train in Australia.
